Tasks:
Engage the following topics and including the specific questions arising from the reading, the videos and audios examining God as Trinity as well as the chapter on Roman Catholicism from the Survivor’s Guide to Theology.
Based on your reading of Chapters 1 and 2 of Recovering the Forgotten Trinity, address the following:
What God concept or concepts have most influenced you personally, both positively and negatively, over the course of your life?
In what way are these concepts congruent with the reality of God as tripersonal relationship of love, and in what way are they not congruent?
In what ways were you challenged by the presentations in this week’s readings? In what ways did you feel your security threatened?
Protestants, typically view Catholicism through the lens of the Reformation and the theological and practical abuses that caused their spiritual forefathers to separate from Rome. Unlike Orthodoxy, Catholicism has continued to change and teach new understandings over the centuries. Based on your reading of the chapter “Roman Catholicism,” address the following:
Compare and contrast Roman Catholicism with your own theological tradition.
With what do you agree, and with what do you disagree?
What, if anything, have you learned about Catholicism? Has this changed your opinion of this largest Christian communion in the world?
Is there anything that Protestants can learn from Catholicism?
